SATELLITE CITY MASTER PLANNING - CHINA

Archetype Design were commissioned to undertake a master planning exercise for an 8 square kilometre satellite city on the outskirts of Chang Chun City, Capital of Jilin Province, People's Republic of China. The development was a joint venture with the Provincial Government, and included an 18 hole gold course surrounded by 5 luxury hotels, an administrative centre, shopping precinct, commercial business centre, a primary and high school campus, a horse race course, as well as a combination of low density and high density residential apartment buildings.The development was linked internally with a monorail that  traversed the different zones.The Project, undertaken in 2000-2003, involved in excess of a dozen trips to China, and many intense negotiations with government officials, city's planning and civil engineering officers, as well as the villagers of the land to be developed. All discussions were undertaken through interpreters, and the work involved knowledge of the local cultural traditions.
